KINGSTON'S TOP ELECTRICIAN

We’ve spoken about the sounds your electrical system can have. Sometimes those sounds are easy to identify, while others are more difficult. While you are auditing your system, here are a few hints and tips to make it easier.

  1. Get Bigger Ears – Whether you use something made for the purpose or build one of your own, a funnel on your ear will magnify the sound so you can pinpoint where any noise is coming from.
  2. Go Digital – You can use a radio or your phone to amplify that irritating sound as well.
  3. Process of Elimination – If your house isn’t wired with a hundred different outlets on one breaker then you can shut each breaker off in succession to find the culprit.

Once you isolate the offending outlet or wire you can determine if it’s necessary to call an electrician. Don’t leave a breaker on if you’re worried about the safety of your home. Even if your electrician can’t make it, you have control over your usage.

It’s important to note as well that even seemingly harmless sounds are still using power. It may not be about to burn your house down, but it could be burning a hole in your wallet.
